in the mouth, along with flavors of blackberry, raspberry & tart cherry. Oak-free
& very well-balanced, with a smooth, sumptuous finish.

This biodynamic Rhone producer strives for balance in their
vines, lands, grapes & wines. This quest for harmony has guided Montirius’
decisions for the past decade, and will serve them well into the future of this
exciting domaine. Vacqueyras, along with Gigondas, are the two Southern Rhone
sub-regions most similar to their famous neighbor, Chateauneuf du Pape. Of the
two Vacqueyras they produce, Montirius’ ‘Le Clos’ label is a fresher, leaner
take on this dense style. Called ‘Le Clos’ because of the wooded enclosure that
surrounds the vineyard, the grapes used to make this wine are more sheltered
than many surrounding plots. ‘Le Clos’ is also unoaked, which is somewhat
unique for the region. The resulting wine is a fresh, approachable Rhone blend,
with excellent balance, that drinks quite well at a younger age. |
