Volnay is often described as silky and elegant but the wines can vary in style depending on the soil and elevation of the vineyard. They have a high percentage of limestone and show classic Volnay character of perfume and finesse. Les Pitures is robust and opulent with violet, plum, earth and a subtle spiciness. Aged in neutral oak barrels.

Here too the nose is cool, elegant, airy and high-toned with its pretty array of red cherry, spice and rose petal-suffused aromas. The intense and well-detailed bigger-bodied flavors possess a lovely sense of underlying tension before culminating in a stony, youthfully austere and balanced finale. Like the Pommard villages, this is not particularly concentrated yet the overall sense of harmony makes this quite attractive.

This features density and beefy tannins, with cherry, currant, earth and stony mineral flavors. Lean and taut, offering a long, spice-tinged finish. Best from 2021 through 2033.
